Jesca's Reflection :D

To me inclusion is a very important thing that all of us should practice. Not only towards disabled people but to everybody from different race and background. I feel that inclusion is important to practice in everyone's daily life. Imagine being a disabled person and people not including you in their lives and treating you differently from them. How would you feel? No matter who and what you are, to me, everyone is the same. We should not leave out anyone due to any reason.

I feel that there shouldent be any prejudice against people with disabilities. As what I mentioned, everyone should be treated euqally. It is not as if they did not want themselves to be the way they are too. They are also human being like you and me. The more common types of prejudice against disabled people would be people who are wheelchaired bound. The environment that we live in is totally not environmentally friendly to them. Be it in school during PE when they are left out and unable to play activities like the rest or in class where there is no lifts in some schools for them.

In my opinion, I believe Cambodian people would be more accepting to people with disability as compared to Singaporeans. This may be due to the culutral difference and how they were brought up. The training in AWWA will really help us understand the assistive devices better so that we can help them better when we go to Cambodia. We would then be able to know how the assistive devices function so as to help them if they are unsure of using it.

I am happy that we are able to work with AWWA for our Pre-YEP trip as I am able to interact with them better and able to see to their needs better. This would enable us to help people at Cambodia better. However I felt that I did not do a really good job at this pre-YEP as I did not really know how to intercat well with them, hence I will try my best to interect with the people more at Cambodia! (:

Gogogo~ Woosh YEP team <3 WE CAN ALL DO THIS AND ITS GONNA BE FUN~ ^^

About Cambodia YEP 2011

Our YEP trip is from 21st March to 3rd April 2011. Our group which consists of 24 members, will be heading to Khmer Village (Cambodia) and Phnom Penh. We plan to bring joy and memories to the villagers; especially people with disabilities. Moreover, geared with our skills and a passion to reach out to communities beyond Singapore, we hope that both our students and the villagers will gain something precious from this trip.
